Antonio Reiné in his studio

Born in Cádiz, Antonio Reiné began his artistic training at the city's School of Art before moving to Granada to complete an advanced diploma in sculpture. In 2010 he enrolled in Fine Arts at the University of Salamanca, and an Erasmus scholarship later took him to the Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome — where he studied Renaissance and Baroque sculpture firsthand, from Michelangelo to Bernini. A further exchange brought him to Seville, where he graduated in 2014, closing a formation shaped by diversity and a cosmopolitan outlook.

His work centers on the human figure, drawing on classical Greek sculpture as much as on modernity. Following the Socratic idea that art should reveal the "movements of the soul," Reiné treats anatomy as the backbone of his practice — a rigorous understanding of the body, he believes, is what makes a figure convincing and lets it speak to whoever stands before it. His sculptures move across the full range of human emotion, from agony to ecstasy, from restraint to introspection.
